Challenges with Censorship:

The journey to bring “Delighted: Nazanin, Bahareh, and Tina” to our screens wasn’t without its challenges. Reports surfaced about disagreements and speculations regarding the reasons behind the delay in receiving the screening license. Mohammed Hussein Latifi, a member of the screening council, emphasized that the film “Delighted: Nazanin, Bahareh, Tina” couldn’t be modified to meet the required standards and hence wouldn’t be granted a screening license. According to him, the unanimous opinion was that the film’s content, from beginning to end, posed issues that couldn’t be resolved.

This decision sparked protests from various figures within the cinema industry. Actress Taraneh Alidoosti tweeted, “An old question: How can a film that is fundamentally flawed and can’t be fixed according to you, get approved by the censorship organization?” She further questioned the decision-making process, referring to Latifi’s statement that the opinions of nine council members represent the entire nation’s viewpoint.

Mehran Ghaforian also expressed his views, stating, “It’s unclear what happens when a film receives its production permit and is ready but not allowed to be screened! For example, for ‘Ben-Hur,’ we didn’t come to get a production permit for ‘Ben-Hur’ but let’s make ‘Zapata.’ They shouldn’t say this film can’t be modified, because I truly don’t understand its meaning. Does Kahani take a permit to make one film and then make another with this permit, or has he added strange things to the film?”

Despite the controversies and debates surrounding the film’s approval, “Delighted: Nazanin, Bahareh, and Tina” stands as a testament to the dynamic nature of Iranian cinema and the discussions it ignites within society.
